Ditemukan 10 Planet Baru di Galaksi Bima Sakti

Liputan6.com, Wellington: Sepuluh planet baru "mengambang" melalui galaksi ditemukan tim astronom internasional yang dipimpin ilmuwan Selandia Baru. Kesepuluh planet berukuran Jupiter itu merupakan penemuan baru dalam sejarah Galaksi Bima Sakti. Penemuan menggunakan perangkat lunak yang dikembangkan ilmuwan komputer Universitas Massey, Wellington, Australia.

"Mereka planet raksasa di galaksi kita, sekitar ukuran Jupiter. Ternyata selam ini kesepuluh planet tersebut berada di suatu tempat di antara kita dan bintang-bintang," kata Ian Bond, seorang Astro Fisika, belum lama ini. Planet-planet itu diyakini berjarak sekitar dua-pertiga dari pusat galaksi, berjarak sekitar 25.000 tahun cahaya.

Jika mereka terlihat dengan mata telanjang, planet-planet itu akan menjadi gelap gulita, karena mereka tidak memancarkan cahaya. Planet baru ini bisa saja dikeluarkan dari sistem surya karena pertemuan gravitasi dekat dengan planet lain atau bintang. Kemungkinan besar planet baru tumbuh dari keruntuhan bola gas dan debu, tapi tak memiliki massa untuk menyalakan bahan bakar dan menghasilkan cahaya bintang sendiri.

Temuan itu menyebabkan para peneliti beraharap planet mengambang bebas seukuran Bumi yang dapat mendukung kehidupan. Meskipun hingga saat ini kemungkinan itu kecil, planet semacam itu belum terdeteksi.(Xinhua/AIS)

Gangguan Bicara bisa Diprediksi dari Tangisan Waktu Bayi

Berlin, Keterlambatan dalam mengembangkan kemampuan berbicara pada anak-anak bisa diprediksi sejak umur 2 bulan, ketika bayi baru bisa menangis. Jika di usia tersebut tangisannya terlalu 'sederhana', kelak cenderung lebih sulit belajar bicara.

Saat baru lahir, semua bayi umumnya menangis dengan melodi yang sangat sederhana yakni sekali naik kemudian turun perlahan atau jika digambar grafiknya akan membentuk sebuah busur. Seiring bertambahnya usia, suara tangisan akan semakin kompleks.

Suara tangisan biasanya mulai kelihatan lebih kompleks ketika bayi memasuki umur 2 bulan. Pada usia ini, suaranya tidak hanya sekali naik kemudian turun lagi tetapi mulai ada variasi-variasi misalnya tiba-tiba berhenti kemudian menangis lagi.

Sebuah penelitian di Jerman mengungkap, kompleksitas suara tangis bayi pada usia 2 bulan bisa memprediksi perkembangan kemampuan bicara atau berbahasa. Makin sederhana suara tangisannya, makin besar risikonya mengalami gangguan pengucapan suku kata.

Hal ini dibuktikan setelah para peneliti membandingkan suara tangisan pada 11 bayi yang mengalami bibir sumbing, 10 bayi dengan kelainan pada langi-langit mulut dan 50 bayi dengan kondisi bibir dan mulut yang normal. Bayi-bayi itu diamati hingga usia 2 tahun.

Menurut para peneliti, kompleksitas suara tangisan bayi yang normal seharusnya sudah mencapai 50 persen pada usia 2 bulan. Dikutip dari HealthDay, Minggu (23/5/2011), bayi dengan tangisan seperti ini jarang mengalami keterlambatan bicara dalam perkembangannya kelak.

Namun jika kompleksitasnya di usia 2 bulan hanya berada di bawah 45 persen, bayi tersebut 5 kali lebih berisiko mengalami keterlambatan bicara ketika berusia 2 tahun. Artinya semakin sederhana suara tangisannya, makin besar kemungkinan mengalami gangguan bicara.

Dalam penelitian ini, bayi dengan kelainan pada langit-langit mulut serta bibir sumbing dilibatkan karena lebih rentan mengalami keterlambatan dalam belajar bicara. Dengan temuan ini, diharapkan gangguan semacam ini bisa dideteksi lebih dini.

Sikat Gigi Selamatkan Balita

London, Retinoblastoma adalah jenis kanker langka pada mata yang lebih sering menyerang anak-anak. Seorang bocah selamat dari kanker mematikan ini berkat sikat gigi yang bisa menyala dan kebetulan sinarnya dipantulkan oleh sel kanker di retina.

Katie Lolley, balita asal London sangat menyukai sikat gigi yang ada lampunya. Lampu kelap-kelip tesebut menyala selama 60 detik saat digunakan, sekaligus menandai waktu ideal bagi seorang bocah berusia 2 tahun sepertinya untuk menggosok gigi.

Tak hanya menarik perhatian Katie, suatu ketika kelap-kelip lampu sikat gigi itu juga membuat ibunya, Rebecca khawatir. Saat lampu kamar mandi agak redup, Rebecca mendapati pantulan aneh pada mata Katie dan langsung memeriksakannya ke dokter saat itu juga.

Kekhawatiran Rebecca tak berlebihan, sebab setelah diperiksa dokter mata mengatakan bahwa pantulan tersebut merupakan gejala kanker ganas yang disebut retinoblastoma. Satu-satunya cara untuk menyelamatkan Katie adalah mengangkat bola matanya sebelum tumornya menyebar ke jaringan lain.

Jenis kanker yang terbilang langka dan lebih sering menyerang anak-anak ini pertumbuhannya sangat pesat dan bisa mematikan jika terlambat mendapat penanganan. Dalam waktu 10 hari saja, ukurannya bisa membesar 3 kali lipat sehingga menekan jaringan lain di kepala.

Meski pada akhirnya bola mata Katie harus diangkat dan diganti bola mata palsu, namun Rebecca tetap bersyukur nyawa anak perempuannya masih terselamatkan. Sekalipun akhirnya buta, setidaknya Katie masih hidup sehingga ada harapan suatu saat nanti bisa mendapatkan mata buatan.

"Jika bukan karena lampu sikat gigi itu, kami tidak akan pernah tahu ada tumor di mata Katie. Atau mungkin kami baru akan tahu ketika sudah terlambat," kenang Rebecca yang suaminya bekerja sebagai teknisi rel kereta api seperti dikutip dari The Sun, Minggu (23/5/2011).

Sementara itu dikutip dari Mayo Clinic, retinoblastoma adalah kanker mata yang menyerang retina. Karena bagian tersebut paling peka terhadap cahaya, adanya sel kanker bisa memicu pantulan aneh pada mata ketika terkena cahaya saat berada di tempat yang agak gelap.

Pantulan aneh yang disebut-sebut mirip seperti mata kucing tersebut merupakan gejala awal retinoblastoma. Sedangkan tanda-tanda lain yang perlu diwaspadai sebagai gejala awal retinoblastoma pada anak-anak antara lain sebagai berikut.

1. Pantulan putih seperti mata kucing pada retina (bagian tengah mata) ketika terkena cahaya
2. Gerakan mata tidak terkoordinasi alias juling, kedua bola mata masing-masing melihat ke arah yang berbeda
3. Warna mata secara umum memerah
4. Ukuran bola mata membengkak.

Selain dengan operasi pengangkatan bola mata, retinoblastoma juga bisa diatasi dengan kemoterapi maupun terapi kanker lainnya jika ukurannya belum terlalu besar. Namun karena gejalanya sering tidak terdeteksi, kebanyakan penderita akhirnya buta karena harus kehilangan bola mata.

Kontroler Nintendo Wii 2 Memiliki Kamera?

Jakarta - Nintendo siap menghadirkan beragam fitur anyar pada generasi penerus Wii. Salah satunya adalah penggunaan kamera di dalam kontroler konsol tersebut. Benarkah?

Hal ini diungkapkan oleh 'orang dalam' yang dikutip detikINET dari Kotaku, Minggu (22/5/2011). Menurut sumber tersebut, kamera ini nanti berfungsi untuk menangkap gambar di dalam game.

Penempatan kamera ini nanti berada di bagian atas kontroler, mirip dengan Nintendo DSi dan 3DS. Jika benar, hal ini mungkin sangat cocok dengan penggunaan LCD 6 inchi yang sempat dirumorkan sebelumnya.

Generasi baru Nintendo Wii memang tengah ditunggu para penggemarnya. Bahkan penerbit game sekaliber Ubisoft pun sudah berjanji akan menggelontorkan game khusus untuk konsol tersebut.

Nokia Smartphone WP 7

Salah satu syarat perangkat keras yang ‘dicanangkan’ Microsoft, untuk smartphone Windows Phone adalah disematkannya chip prosesor Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1 GHz. Alhasil, smartphone WP 7, entah itu buatan HTC, LG, Samsung, atau Dell yang kini ada di pasaran hadir dengan prosesor yang seragam.

Kini, seiring akan hadirnya smartphone Window Phone generasi berikutnya, spesifikasi chasis baru pun ditetapkan menggunakan chip MSM7x30 dan MSM8x55.

Menariknya, seolah ingin keluar dari pakem yang ditetapkan itu, menurut CEO STMicroelectronics, Carlo Bozzoti, seperti dikutip PULSAonline via pocketnow, dikatakan bahwa beberapa ponsel Nokia berplatform Windows Phone akan menyematkan chip ST-Ericsson.

ST-Ericsson adalah sebuah perusahaan joint venture antara STMicroelectronics dan Ericsson. Perusahaan ini memiliki hubungan yang sangat baik dengan Nokia. 

Lebih lanjut Carlo Bozzoti, menegaskan bahwa ST-Ericsson akan menjadi salah satu dari dua pemasok chip untuk smartphone Windows Phone dan chipset NovaThor U8500 dilaporkan akan menjadi chipset ST-Ericsson yang akan disematkan pada smartpho Windows Phone kreasi Nokia.

Seperti diketahui, di tahun 2012 mendatang vendor ponsel asal Finlandia ini berencana akan merilis tidak kurang dari 12 smartphone Windows Phone.

Benarkah smartphone Windows Phone kreasi Nokia menggunakan chip ST-Ericsson, untuk memastikannya kita lihat saja perkembangannya nanti.

RIM Merugi

Kehadiran BlackBerry Playbook bisa dibilang tak segemilang yang diharapkan pihak pabrikan. Pasalnya, selain sempat mendapat penilaian ‘miring’ oleh beberapa reviewer, hingga kini penjualan tablet PC besutan RIM ini masih sepi dari peminat.

Menurut sumber terpercaya, seperti dikutip PULSAonline via BGR, dilaporkan bahwa penjualan BlackBerry PlayBook telah jatuh dari ekspektasi. Tak hanya itu, tingkat pengembalian (retur) PlayBook juga lebih tinggi ketimbang pesaingnya Motorola XOOM.

Bahkan, menurut sumber lain yang merupakan retail utama PlayBook, dilaporkan bahwa target penjualan PlayBook meleset hingga mencapai 90%.

Meskipun menurut laporan ini penjualan PlayBook dikatakan tidak terlalu sukses. Namun, beberapa analis mengatakan bahwa tablet yang diluncurkan pada 19 April lalu ini telah alami penjualan cukup baik sejauh ini.

Menurut Mike Abramsky, Managing Direktor dari RBC Capital Markets, percaya bahwa RIM telah menjual sekitar 250.000 unit PlayBook.

Motorola Defy

Meramaikan pasar Android yang saat ini menikmati posisi puncak sebagai sistem operasi yang paling banyak digunakan, Motorola kembali mengeluarkan produk terbaru yang menggunakan platform besutan Google ini. Menyusul Backflip dan Charm, kali ini Motorola menawarkan Defy, sebuah ponsel berbasis Android Éclair yang katanya tangguh. Bagaimana perfomanya? Berikut ulasan PULSA.

Disain

Motorola seringkali tampil dengan disain yang tidak bisa. Tengok saja disain nyeleneh ala Backflip atau penutup layar mirip kap mobil pada Lucky 3G. Namun hal tersebut tidak begitu terlihat pada Defy yang sekilas sama seperti banyak smartphone touch screen lainnya.

Defy mungkin bisa dikatakan Android paling tangguh saat ini. Pasalnya Motorola mengklaim bahwa ponsel besutannya ini anti-debu, anti-air dan tahan goresan. Dan meski tidak tertampil pada disain, paling tidak ketangguhan Defy diwakilkan oleh pilihan bahannya. Defy menggunakan plastik yang dilapisi karet pada bagian belakang dan gorilla glass yang memenuhi sektor depannya.

Di sekelilingnya, pengguna dapat menemukan 7 buah baut yang terekspos langsung khas ponsel outdoor. Selain itu tersedia pula penutup berbahan karet yang melindungi akses audio 3.5mm dan gerbang micro USB yang berfungsi untuk menghubungkan kabel data dan charger.
Tombol power diletakkan pada bagian atas dan pengatur volume disamping kanan ponsel. Sementara 4 buah tombol kapasitif mendampingi layar dibagian depan. Tombol kapastif yang tersedia dari kiri ke kanan adalah tombol menu, home, back dan search.
